Maybe Sailing Programme - Tall Ships Race 2019

Maybe is a wooden gaff ketch with adult and youth berths

Tall Ships Race leg 1 from Denmark to Southern Norway

Take part in the International Tall Ships race and enjoy great sailing, night watches, sun burn, salt spray, green waves over the deck, tacking and gybing your way to the finish line as part of a tightly knit crew. Awaiting you there are thousands of spectators, well wishers, parties, parades, fairground rides, and a celebration of Youth and International Friendship like nothing else you can imagine. Gaff Ketch Maybe will be racing in a class with other vessels a similar size, but you will be amongst the bigger tall ships too as you manoeuvre ready for the start, and you still have the close quarters thrill of the chase as the whole tall ships fleets race the same course.

Cruise in Company - Fredrikstad to Western Fjords

This is an appealing voyage for anyone who enjoys the sight of tall ships sailing together, but doesn't want the intensity of a tall ships race. You will still be actively involved in sailing the boat and create a spectacle out on the water as dozens of tall ships cruise in company to Bergen, Norway.

Whilst this is called a 'cruise in company' you don't always sail in company of other tall ships or the smaller yachts in the fleet, but you quite often bump into them. It is part of the event and the whole fleet works its way up the coast to the next tall ships big festival port in Bergen. The great advantage of it not being a race is you can stop on route and explore Norway properly by walking in mountain scenery, island hop, swim or BBQ ashore. Certain ports and even small villages along the coast agree to welcome any visiting  tall ship as part of Norway's hospitality, but you can also do your own thing to and seek out that perfect anchorage to yourself. This route takes you around the white towns of Norway's Southern Shores to Stavanger and hiking challenges like Lysefjord where you can climb to the top of the towering Pulpit rock, or sailing underneath it is pretty cool.

In port, there will be plenty going on as the tall ships arrival into Bergen will be celebrated with a tall ship festival.

Mostly Young Sailors but Young at Heart Welcome

International Tall Ships Races are a unique opportunity for individuals aged 15 to 25 years to be involved and take part in a world class event. On Maybe and all other participating ships, at least 50% of the crew will be young people.  Maybe is happy for over 25 year old crew to sign up for the adventure of this tall ships race as long as they are prepared to enter into the spirit of what is essentially a young persons challenge and social event. If you sign up for the challenge on Maybe you will be joining hundreds of other Ships and thousands of under 25 year old's to pit your wits at sea, in one of the greatest races on earth. You really are part of the crew and absolutely vital to the running of the ship.
